MEET THE ARTIST

Matthew is an artist from Portsmouth, VA. He began drawing as a young child with his first impressions from an artistic and technical perspective by his parents – his Mom, a music teacher and his Dad, an engineer. As a kid his major influences came from the tv show Dragon Ball Z. His second major influence occurred in High School when he was introduced to real Hip Hop and street art culture. This is also where he picked up his signature, MAD2. Upon graduating High School, Matthew received a Civil Engineering degree from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University. He was tempted to transfer over to graphic design on multiple occasions but decided he would pursue his passion for art on his own time outside of school. Matthew now has taken his unique style to portray art from pop culture in both historical and modern day society under his business URBANDIGGS. He then created URBANDIGGS Awareness, a business model he has dubbed “Social Artrepreneurship”, where artwork is specifically created to support a social cause, project, or organization. You can find his work at exhibitions, events, city murals, and local pop-ups. For more information, you can visit his website at urbandiggsart.com, or follow his personal and business Instagram profiles @getdiggywithit & @urbandiggsart.
